i just saw kim from the muffs on design on a dime. weird. i love the muffs and i saw her and thought it looked like her, so i looked it up....
do they give you the $1000 to design your room or do you still have to come up with the $1000? i need help with all rooms. it's hard to design kid friendly.

i was searching for communities on recipes and food and the first community to pop up under a food search was pro-anorexia community. it's not blocked and you can read people's journals. wow. i didn't know 140 was slobby fat and that 103 wasn't skinny yet. man that's a scary and sad community. REALLY SCARY and depressing. I knew they existed, i just never stumbled on one yet.
this is the crap i get trying to sew and chase around a toddler. totally didn't come out the way it was supposed to and the stitching is crap. boo to me.
I just transferred a bunch of blogs from myspace to lj and back dated them. I just don't want any more snoops or all these random pics of El for pedis to creep at, especially now that he's getting older. My family photos are blocked for friends only on myspace.
isn't he cute in my dress when i was a babe?

mmmm hmmmm (that's his new phrase when he eats)

my bike needs to be fixed. someone fix it.

i love my dining room. well, i call it the mother room. it has my belly cast and my placenta print.

Elliot fell asleep in arms to Iggy and the Stooges and it made me smile (he always falls asleep to stuff like this). It made me feel good to think that my parenting is not that of the norm and stereotypical. Elliot is going to be an awesome, hip and caring kid. Things are going to be okay.

I'm very torn between excitement and anguish for the last installment of Harry Potter. As many faithful Harry Potter fans, I don't want it to end. At the same time, i'm excited to know the outcome of it all. Will Harry or Voldermort die? Is Dumbledore really dead? Is Snape really the bad guy? There are just too many unanswered questions. I hope these are all answered in the last book.
As the last book approaches, I dread the thought of not being able to escape to a land of wizards, owl posts, Quidditch matches, talking paintings, spells and potions. Rowling has made us feel right at home and as if we were actually at Hogwarts. I've laughed out loud at the Weasley twins and their pranks and cried for Cedric, Sirius and Dumbledore. I've been able to taste the butterbeer and quit literally Bertie Bot's every flavor bean thanks to Jelly Belly (made me sooo sick, try the vomit flavor). You can actually hear the crackling of the common room fire while the kids are studying and Harry, Ron and Hermione plot their "missions."
I'm very sad that this is all coming to an end. I won't have that feeling of escape with every new book. The excitement of the wait and then getting the book in your hands and not being able to put it down. But, I will have the excitement of reading it to Elliot for the first time and seeing his enthusiasm and opening up this world to him for the first time.

As a devoted John Waters fan, I don't know how I feel about the musical or the upcoming movie. Is the movie a remake of the 1988 John Waters' cult classic or is it the musical brought to big screen? First of all John Travolta as Edna Turnblad? What? I don't know if it will be funny or just creepy

I just looked on the website and it's the musical and just not a stupid remake. But, I don't like musicals. Maybe i'll like this. I'm just not a huge fan of musicals. I like that Queen Latifah is Motor Mouth Mabel. I'll probably just end up seeing it and so far Elliot likes all the songs that i've played him from the musical. He loves the real Hairspray (not even kidding or trying to be cool, he geniunly likes it), which I think might be the theme of his party. It's either that or Teletubbies.
I should research before I open my mouth or blog. I was just in shock about the movie thing. Now, I know it's just the musical. Phew. I'm tired of all the LAME remakes. Hands off of HAIRSPRAY and CRY BABY!! I've learned all my sweet dance moves from John Waters as a kid watching Hairspray every day with my sister.
p.s. I hate Amanda Bryn or whatever her name is. She's playing Penny Pingleton. Uck.

Parents need to teach children how to be humble and that giving back to the community and people is a GOOD and needed thing. Kids are too spoiled/egocentric/lazy/apathetic these days. I worry every day about how I will raise Elliot to not be this way. I want him to care about other people and the world around him and to try to make this world a better place.

Elliot update: He started walking on Wednesday. He's taken a few steps here and there before and could stand, but never braved the walk across the room until last Wednesday. I was lying on the couch and he was over by the gate about 20 feet away and just walked over to me. It was awesome. Now he's walking everywhere. He's also trying to mimic everything we say and do. We definatley have to watch our sailor mouths now.
Elliot's turning one in April. I can't believe how fast the year flew by. Now we're in pre planning birthday mode. We're going to have one on Saturday, April 7 for the friends and one on Sunday, April 8 for my family. We have to please everyone, boo. Still deciding one what kind of super healthy "cake" to bake/make for Elliot. I might end up buying a baby cake at Wild Oats, not that I want to support the Whole Foods buying them out, assholes. I don't want peeps to buy a bunch of plasticy, mass produced, made by sweatshop toys either. I don't know how to put that nicely in the invites. Maybe just no presents. I don't know. I don't want a bunch of toys he'll play with once all over my house either. But, I don't want to offend anyone either. What to do?
Books are always on my good side. He loves books and story time already. I've been reading him a chapter a day of LOTR. He sits in my lap and falls asleep to it. We're only on Fellowship. I would prefer books and homemade toys and clothes, but that's not going to happen. Oh well.
P.S. I know i'm a hippy now. I just care about the world and environment that Elliot grows up in. It sucks right now and i'm trying to do something about it and not be a massive consumer and planet destroyer.
That's my update for now.

Report: U.S. and Britain rank last in child well-being
TUESDAY, Feb. 13 (HealthDay News) — The United States and Great Britain were ranked second to last and last, respectively, in a UNICEF report released Wednesday that looked at the well-being of children in 21 industrialized countries, the Associated Press reported.
Countries at the top of the list were European nations with strong social welfare systems — the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, and Finland.
The rankings were based on six measures: material well-being, health and safety, education, peer and family relationships, behaviors and risks, and youngsters' own subjective sense of well-being, the AP reported.
In the health and safety category, the United States came last. That category looks at rates of infant death, low birth weight, immunization, and deaths from accidents and injuries.
The fact that the United States and Britain were ranked below countries such as Poland, the Czech Republic, and Hungary shows that a nation's overall wealth alone does not guarantee a child's well-being, the report authors said.

"Estée Lauder is one of the biggest names in beauty with a variety of high-end cosmetics, personal care, and fragrance lines. The company also does appparel, including popular clothing brands such as Tommy Hilfiger and Donna Karan. Its sophisticated image, star-studded connections, and well publicized support for breast cancer research mask an unpleasant truth. Estée Lauder has not signed the Compact for Safe Cosmetics, which calls for the removal of cancer-causing ingredients from personal care products. In addition, Estée Lauder has been cited for sweatshop labor abuses, toxic dumping, and antitrust issues. In contrast, Estée Lauder subsidiary Aveda has established itself as an innovator committed to environmental sustainability. Aveda offers an all-natural product line, uses recycled paper, and is engaged in promoting the use of sustainably produced catalogs and magazines. By not following Aveda's lead, Estée Lauder is missing opportunities to advance social responsibility across its other areas of operation."
educate yourself and research what you're really buying. i'm trying to be a caring consumer. for the past four or so years, i kind of turned my back on all the stuff i used to care about, human rights, animal rights, the environment, etc. i guess being a mom you start caring more for the sake of the future of my son and what kind of world is he going to live in. i've always cared, i never stopped caring. i just kind of ignored it for a little while. now actista lady is back in full force. well, not full force, but trying.

i'm trying to translate my grandmother's recipes. i'm going to make little cookbooks for the fam. for christmas. i like doing home made gifts because it's more meaningful, yadda yadda. this is also a way late start. i've been meaning to do this for quit some time. my grandma's been dead for 4 years now, and i'm just now getting around to it. i keep thinking i can call her up and ask her what so and so means or what she's trying to say. but i can't and that makes me sad. it's hard to read her handwriting, although it's pretty cursive handwriting, it's still hard to read and make sense of the ingredients or the order, etc. this gift will be kick ass anyway. will's designing the cover. my wrists hurt from typing and so does my back. blah. back to work.

i got my dog some dog boots like tinkerbell wears. ha ha!! the funniest thing ever. my dog hates them it it was the funniest thing to watch him try to walk in them. the reason i got them was because he hates the snow and ice that gets stuck in his paws and he stops and begs to be held during our walks. so i thought i'd try these. it will take some training to get him used to it. but, man was it funny to watch. plus, i got him an uber gay pink polo shirt to wear. ha ha....feel sorry for my fab. dog. i wish my computer was in better shape to upload my pics. maybe i'll try it now.
